Duck Club Outing 1912
Richmond Duck Club was formed around 1900 as a social club for working men and to enable an annual outing to be taken, usually to the seaside, in a time when the idea of planned recreation was in its infancy.
The story goes that the origins of the name ‘Duck Club’ may be attributed to the fact that during the annual excursion which was undertaken on an open-top charabanc, each time the vehicle approached a low hanging branch or bridge everyone would shout ‘DUCK’
Since those early days the Duck Club has maintained its social side, even retaining the annual excursion but it has also evolved into a charitable organisation favouring children. To this end, funds are raised and events organised to benefit local individuals and groups of children in the town.
